It may be controversial to say and I don’t intend to hurt anybody’s feelings, but I am not a fan of the modern website design. I often find them not only boring but lacking in personality. Sterile. Time and again, I find it difficult to glean anything about a website’s creators, hindering me from feeling a kinship with the person behind the screen. So, when I was tasked with creating a personal website to house my portfolio for one of my university courses, I decided that I would do everything within my own power to make it feel truly personal, and to be honest, that may have been to my own detriment.
I got an idea in my head that my website should have a subtle storybook vibe. Now, I’m not sure if I managed to pull that off, but I hope that you have still enjoyed exploring my little page. I know that there is not much here, but I hope to be able to add more when I am not being bogged down by schoolwork and exams.
For the overall look of the website, I just thought about places that I would enjoy reading a book in, or the eclectic feel I would love to see around my own home (on the small chances that I would be able to own one). Something the feels cozy, if that makes sense. Away from the noise of everything.
Absolutely NO generative AI was used in the creation of this website and every background and asset was designed and painted by myself with the exception of the painting done by my incredible friend that is the backdrop for ‘Kiera’s Legacy’ with her permission. This website primarily uses HTML and CSS with a tiny touch of JavaScript (which, to be completely honest, I still don’t understand). Prior to this website, I had never even touched code of any kind, and to say my learning relied heavily on YouTube and trial and error would be an understatement. That’s probably why this site’s code is so jenky. (If anyone is interested) I found Freecodecamp.org to be incredibly helpful for learning the basics of HTML and CSS.
As I stated before, I hope to continue to mess around with this site, making it have more substance and adding in more little do dads, but I won’t have much time for a while. If you have read this far, thank you so much for putting up with my ramble and for checking out my page. I hope you are doing well and I wish you health and happiness.
