About Sabrina

I have lived in North Vancouver and have been raised by two people who tirelessly raised 3 children while working full-time jobs and were on call 24/7 for most of my life. My parents have shown me the importance of having a strong work ethic, while at the same time caring for those around me. I grew up reading high fantasy and science fiction novels and playing video games with my mother, then hiking through the forests and investigating tidepools, pretending that I had walked through a portal into another world. With my father, I would camp, build greenhouses, cabins, mini catapults, and siege towers that my older brothers and I would use to recreate the Battle of Pelennor Fields from The Lord of the Rings.

Ever since my mom bought me my first fish when I was 6 (which my dad refers to as my “gateway pet”), I have not been without an animal in my vicinity. Currently, I am the proud caretaker of 3 cats, one dog, and a snake, all of whom I love dearly. Growing up surrounded by creatures has made me develop a love and respect for them, which led me to be an annual volunteer with Artists for Conservation (AFC), which is an artist group dedicated to supporting the environment. I even had the opportunity and pleasure of going to South Africa with the founders of AFC in August of 2025.

While being a student, I work part-time at Northmount Compounding Pharmacy near Lonsdale as an assistant compounding technician. Working at the pharmacy has made me realise how fascinating and impactful medical care and medicine can be for people. I feel immense gratification in being able to help others, and as someone who tends to be shyer, working in the background is very much up my alley. Research and development of pharmaceuticals has always been on my radar as something that people do; however, until taking an entire course on medicinal chemistry, I had never actually considered it as something that would be a good fit for me.

My experience at Northmount has shown me that although patients can require a lot of patience, many of them are going through something and need kindness in their lives. On the other hand, my involvement with AFC has demonstrated that there are those out there who are willing to band together to protect that which is important but cannot speak up for itself. My love for nature and pharmacology has shaped my entire ethos, causing me to advocate for conservation while wanting to explore how organisms can further inspire human ingenuity in the medical field.
